Tips for Millenials -- A New Post Series

As Director of Communication for a somewhat-small organization I have the privilege of leading our internship program. Every year, I work directly with 4-10 undergraduate and graduate-level students, and each time, old memories come rushing back about the challenges I had in transitioning from a predictable school environment into the hustle and bustle of corporate life.

Compared to university, the working world was completely different. School provided the syllabus and rubric for success. The working world provided nebulous goals and asked me to set the standards and chart the path to success. School taught me to operate with speed and adjust my work based on feedback. The working world taught me to tackle a project quickly, but to do the legwork to provide my own initial feedback and review before getting feedback from the next level of my organization.

It was a big change in the way I think and approach projects.

In the upcoming weeks, I'll be sharing insights and advice to the next generation of the workforce on things to do to help you impress your supervisor and succeed at your job.
